Individual Tax Requirements for Prize Winner: The IRS and most States and Localities treat any prizes you may receive from your employer as income (like your salary or Success Share payments).
Fair Market Value and Tax Withholding:
- The tax is against the prize’s fair market value. The fair market value is the price FIFA will charge for the ticket. We expect the FIFA price per ticket will be between $300 and $600.
- The IRS and State and Local taxing authorities require THD to withhold for taxes during the pay period THD transfers the tickets to the associate. The associate’s “take-home” pay for this pay period will be smaller because the increased withholding for taxes.
- Both the additional income and the additional taxes withheld will be reported on the associates Form W-2 for the applicable tax year and the impacted paystubs.
Associates concerned about this increase in income should discuss with their tax advisor prior to accepting the tickets. Associates who accept tickets understand and consent to these tax related impacts. Please also note, if you win, you may decline the prize if you do not wish to incur the tax obligation. Example Calculation (Subject to Change): For illustration purposes only, an associate in GA earning $20 per hour might see approximately $209.04 in additional withholding for taxes on a $600 award. (Actual amounts may differ based on changes in tax rates or individual circumstances).
